SPEAK UP AGAINST VIOLENCE (suav)

What is the Speak Up Against Violence Project?

SUAV works to prevent and/or respond to violence and discrimination that impacts the local LGBTQI community by:

  • Working to ensuring that we have accurate, accessible, complete and LGBTQI inclusive data related to violence and discrimination directed at our local LGBTQI community by advocating with data collecting organizations of interest. This also includes data that may help us better understand the social determinates that lead to violence and discrimination

  • Building solid relationships with law enforcement agencies like the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, local FBI and others.

  • Building solid relationships with the local LGBTQI community including various organizations, businesses, and other community leaders.

  • Educating the community, stakeholders, and others doing violence and discrimination prevention work to ensure they are more LGBTQI inclusive

  • Rapidly responding to incidents that occur impacting out local LGBTQI community by coordinating personnel and resources to respond to victims, law enforcement and/or media as needed.

INCIDENT REPORTING FORM

Our SUAV Project's hope is to hear from our LGBTQIA community more directly when incidents of violence or discrimination occur so that we may better understand the extent to which these incidents are impacting our local community. We want to know when there are violent incidents such as homicide and assault that impact our LGBTQIA community. We want to be informed about hate violence, intimate partner, sexual violence, and hook-up violence. We want to know about incidents of intimidation, bullying, and harassment. We want to hear about incidents of discrimination.
