Panels are held at many different places, but most commonly they are at college classes, church groups, and diversity trainings. Overwhelmingly, people who ask questions at panels are open-minded and curious to hear about youth experiences, They usually want to hear youth coming out stories, how parents reacted, if someone had any religious conflicts, or questions about gay life in general. Being on a panel is completely optional and voluntary for youth. It is an empowering experience because people are really listening and want to hear what the youth have to say. For more information about panels or you are a GLBTQQ youth and you would like to participate in a panel, call the GYI line at (904) 389-0089 or check out the OUTLOUD Panel brochure at the Drop-In Center or ask any of the staff questions. Youth who participate in panels don't necessarily have to be out to everyone to be on a panel. It is one of the most empowering experiences youth could every have, and the GLBTQQ youth are also taking part in encouraging respect for diversity. If you are a community member and wish to schedule an OUTLOUD Panel for your class, youth group, civic organization, church, or conference, email Garrett Boardman or call (904) 389-3857 ext 206. Please also note that we get many requests for panels throughout the year and are limited in the number we can do each month and are scheduled on a first come first serve basis.
