Program Coordinator- LGBT Student Support Services

 

JASMYN’s mission is to support and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth ages 13-23 by creating safe space, providing youth development programs, and bringing people and resources together to promote diversity and human rights.

 

Energetic, responsible professional needed to implement start-up project creating support and safety for LGBT students and their allies in northeast Florida high schools.  Program implementation and coordination, youth development/advocacy work, teaching experience, and/or demonstrated commitment to LGBT student/youth rights, strengths and needs.  Salary range $30,000- $33,000.  Send resume, cover letter addressing your qualifications for this specific position, and 3 references to apply@jasmyn.org by February 12th 2010

 

Qualifications:

·        BA in education, social work or a related field such as public health or psychology from an accredited university

·        Familiarity with public school settings and student club models such as the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) model

·        Familiarity and sensitivity in dealing with the unique needs of LGBTQ youth; ability to relate to teens in an accepting, positive and healthy manner

·        Demonstrated experience in positive youth development and youth leadership

·        Demonstrated understanding of LGBT youth/students strengths and needs.

·        Ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities and prepare regular reports

·        Ability to develop and lead educational activities for high school students, faculty, and staff that promote school safety for LGBT students

·        Ability to create and facilitate group programming

·        Strong assessment skills and ability to document and prioritize needs well

·        Strong community organizing and outreach skills

·        Strong event planning and network mapping skills

·        Encourage and facilitate youth participation through relationship building and following up on identified needs

·        Assist other staff members with services offered, such as: HIV testing and counseling, case management referrals, health education, clinic, etc.

·        Provide supportive services to youth at the drop in center

·        Must pass criminal background checks

·        Must have current FL driver’s license,  excellent driving record, and reliable transportation
